Create delicious homemade Coconut Chocolate Squares with your kids using just 4 simple ingredients! This fun activity combines creamy coconut and rich chocolate, making it perfect for a rainy day or weekend treat.
Let little hands mix, shape, and dip their way to a delightful sweet reward!
• 3 cups shredded coconut (you can use sweetened or unsweetened)
• ⅔ cup sweetened condensed milk (or coconut milk for a dairy-free option)
• ½ cup powdered sugar (or you can use maple syrup)
• 1-2 cups dark chocolate chips (use dairy-free chocolate if needed)
Mix the Coconut:
• In a big bowl, mix the shredded coconut and powdered sugar together. If you’re using maple syrup instead of powdered sugar, add it in now.
• Pour in the sweetened condensed milk (or coconut milk) and stir everything until it’s thick and sticky.
Shape the Squares:
• Wet your hands a little so the mixture doesn’t stick. Take small amounts of the coconut mixture and roll them into logs, about 2-3 inches long.
• Place these logs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Chill the Squares:
• Put the baking sheet in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes. This helps the squares hold their shape.
Melt the Chocolate:
• While the squares are chilling, melt the dark chocolate. You can do this in a microwave-safe bowl by heating it in short bursts, stirring in between, or use a double boiler on the stove.
Coat the Squares:
• Take the cold coconut squares out of the freezer. Dip each square into the melted chocolate using two forks to cover them completely.
• Place the chocolate-covered squares back on the parchment paper.
Let Them Set:
• Put the baking sheet in the fridge for about 30 minutes so the chocolate can harden.
Once they are set, your homemade Coconut Chocolate Squares are ready to eat! Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. This recipe is not only tasty but also a great way to spend time together in the kitchen! Enjoy making and eating these delicious treats!
