For all our Lykkers seeking breathtaking adventures surrounded by lush greenery and spectacular views, Iguazú Falls is an unforgettable destination.

Stretching across the border between Argentina and Brazil, these majestic waterfalls offer one of the most awe-inspiring experiences in South America. This guide provides essential information on what to expect, how to plan your visit, how to get there, what to see and do, entrance fees, and where to stay nearby.

What and Where

Location and Geography

Iguazú Falls are located along the Iguazú River between the Misiones province in Argentina and the Paraná state in Brazil. The falls span nearly 2.7 kilometers with around 275 individual drops.

They are part of two UNESCO-listed parks: Iguazú National Park in Argentina and Iguaçu National Park in Brazil.

How They Formed

Formed over millions of years by volcanic activity and flowing water eroding the basalt bedrock, the falls are wider and taller than Niagara Falls, with the tallest drop—Garganta del Diablo—reaching 82 meters.

How to Get There

From Argentina

Puerto Iguazú is the closest city and has its own airport, Cataratas del Iguazú (IGR). Regular internal flights connect it to Buenos Aires (€50–€150 one-way). Public buses run every 20 minutes to the entrance of the Argentine park (€1–€2 per person), or travelers can join guided tours from their accommodation (€30–€60).

From Brazil

Foz do Iguaçu is the main Brazilian city, served by Foz do Iguaçu Airport (flights from São Paulo/Rio to IGU (Foz do Iguaçu Airport): one-way: ~€60–€180). From here, visitors can take a public bus (€1.50–€3), direct shuttle from the airport (€5–€10), or book a tour (€40–€70). Taxis and private buses also operate between Foz and the national park.

Cross-Border Visits

To visit both sides of the falls, carry a passport and check visa requirements in advance. Transport options include buses, taxis, or guided tours crossing the bridge over the Iguazú River (€80–€150).
